Ten-K fun!!

Here are the Pixies at the Dempsey challenge 10K! I have to say, it was a great time. The run was awesome, uphill and challenging for the first 2 miles, but then downhill and level for the rest of the 4 miles. Rose, Nicole and I ran together, and met up with Dena for part of her 5K. I think we all had a great sense of accomplishment...I know I do!! I really feel good when I challenge myself to do something more than what I have done.

Easing into fall...

Tomorrow is the last official day of summer, and fall will officially be here. I put this picture up because it is a combination of summer and fall things...Rose gave me the pink flamingos as a thank you for letting the kids use the pool all summer, and I found them a great home in the fall mums!!
Hannah is doing well so far in 1st grade, although I feel like the new school is like a prison or something...no stopping on by to chat with her teacher. The one morning I dropped her off, I wanted to go down to her classroom to say hello to her teacher, and I was not allowed. I do appreciate the security to keep the kids safe, but the school has definately lost the "small town" feel they had. How do people get to know these teachers? I met Hannah's once at the open house and basically introduced myself, that was it. So, I did make an appointment with her, which I am doing today, and I guess it's just to say hi.
Hannah has decided to try a swimming club this fall, the Westbrook Seals, and so far, she is loving it. I still can't believe how far she has come with learning to swim this summer, she may be participating in a meet this year!
Madelyn is Madelyn...more talkative and smarter every day...with that comes more stubbornness. Mary did say at daycare that she is just coming into her own...participating more, being more verbal, and being more independent. She is changing by the day!!
Chris and I went to his high school reunion last weekend...very fun. I got to meet his girlfriend from high school...let's just say that was interesting to say the least!
AND...I am almost ready for the Dempsey Challenge 10K next weekend!! Rose and I have run 6 miles twice aleady, and I feel very good and ready for it! I am so impressed with myself that I can run six miles fairly effortlessly....Yay!

Will Run for Wine...

Here we are...the girls of the Will Run for Wine!! This was taken at our Duo Duel 10K relay in August...we did great I thought! I actually got a better time than Rose, which is unusual for me!So now we are training for The Dempsey Challenge 10k race (not relay!!) I have never done a 10K before, but this morning we did it on our practice run! I am so psyched, since I have not done it before and I felt pretty good!
So, I will continue to get up a few mornings a week at 4:15 to run, at least until this 10K is over on October 2nd...then I might have to take a break for awhile! (Although I probably won't!)

September is Here!!

I cannot believe I have not written in so long!! As usual, we have been busy, busy, busy!!
The last weekend of August we had an end of summer luau...Shane and Larissa came to visit, we had a crazy time, eating, drinking, socializing, and doing a little late-night swimming...(we did NOT expect THAT to happen!) What fun!
Two days later, Hannah started 1st grade. It was somewhat anticlimatic...she still does not tell us much of anything that happens at school. I hate it! I wish I was a fly on the wall to see what goes on all day. I don't know her teacher at all, and hope to get to know her better as the year goes on. The great part of all this, though, is that Hannah is always excited to go to school, and she is confident and matter-of-fact about not knowing her teacher, or any kids in her class, etc. I do not worry about her during the day when she is at school.
Then, four days later, my baby girl turned 6!! We were going to have a pool party with a scavenger hunt, but Hurricane Earl threatened to wreck the swimming for the day, so we changed the venue to Chuck E. Cheese. It was a great idea! She had a blast, and it was well worth the money...they really make a little girl feel very special on her day, with songs, games, a chance in the ticket blaster, a crown, a medal, and lots of her friends there. It was really nice.
Hannah in the ticket blaster. She HAD a blast!!
Now, onward into fall and the school year!!

Whew!!

Nicest Summer Ever!!

I have to say, since moving to Maine, this has to be the nicest summer ever!! That is why I have been neglecting my blog entirely, between swimming every day, going to the beach, going camping, our trip to Michigan, having friends over, Hannah having sleep-overs, gymnastics camp, friends here for swimming and cooking out...I haven't had the time!!It is all good, though, because the summers go entirely too fast around here!!
I have not one, but TWO swimming girls now, as Madelyn has moved up to swimming with just the arm floats and her floaty suit...they both are jumping off the sides like crazy!
This is also the first summer of being able to take the girls to the beach and they play nicely for about 2 hours or more!! I dare say, it is ALMOST relaxing for me...I better not say that too loudly...
But I have to confess...I have been secretly thinking about school shopping, fall clothes, scrapbooking, and quilting...all fall/winter activities...shame on me!!

Swimmer!!

I cannot believe how long it has been since I have written...the days of summer just keep slipping by. Our vacation was very nice, but it is always nice to be home. The big news of the week is Hannah is a swimmer!!She started doggie paddling on her own before we left for Michigan, (see below), and it was amazing when we were on vacation how confident she was getting in the water. She actually fell off the jetski with Chris and Drew and didn't even get upset. She rode on the tube with lots of water spraying in her face and didn't mind.
Well, the week we got home, she just decided one day (with a little motivation of watching Alex) to put her face under the water with goggles on. The next thing I knew, she is swimming underwater, jumping off the side of the pool, and even doing forward and backward flips underwater!! She mastered all this in about 3 days!
Tonight in the pool, she was swimming across to the deep end with her face in the water. She is just rocking the swimming, and I am so proud of her!!

Trip to Michigan

We are getting ready to head out to Michigan this Friday to visit the fam! As Madelyn puts it, one school bus ride, two airplanes, and a ride in the car, and we'll be there! (She makes it sound so easy, doesn't she?) More like 2 adults, 2 children, getting up at 3:30 in the morning, countless snacks, potty visits, arguing, crankiness, carrying stuff through the airport, paying for checking baggage, hopefully two on time flights, no delays, maybe 2 naps on the plane, hopefully not too many spills, crying, not wanting to stay in the seats, arguing about the window seats, etc, etc, etc.
I guess it is worth it, we don't see my family nearly enough, and the girls are beside themselves with excitement to see Grandma, Grandpa, aunties, uncles, and cousins. Oh, and Chutes and Ladders, how could I forget about that?!?

A Wild Animal

Now I have to share the latest funny thing Hannah has said. The other morning, I was trying to get the girls ready for daycare, doing their hair and brushing their teeth, and Madelyn kept running out of the bathroom to get away from me. Hannah says, "Mom, Madelyn ran away again." I sighed and acknowledged that this was true. Then Hannah says, "She is a wild animal Mom. She should be put in a cage." Very matter of fact. Sometimes I do agree with her...3 year olds SHOULD be put in a cage!

Trek across Maine...finally!

When I say finally, I mean I finally am finding the time to write a bit about this. It is now Friday, and I am finally getting caught up on rest, work around the house, etc. The trek was a great weekend! I had so much fun. The biking was hard, definately not a cruise in the park. I was very glad to know that I was prepared for it physically, granted, the end of each day was a challenge but I never felt like I had to quit.
These are the people that were on the team with me. The picture on the top left is me at the finish line in Belfast!! Great weekend, I have to sign up again next year.

I..am...exhausted.

I am sorry to you, my blog, I have been slacking off lately posting to you...and it's not because I have nothing to say, on the contrary, it is because I have been doing so much lately that I am exhausting myself to the point of not even being able to sit for five minutes and do it. I am very sorry, but I certainly plan to take some time, tomorrow, hopefully, or maybe the next day, to recount my adventures of the past week or so. It has been a busy blur, and things don't actually seem like they are going to slow down yet, but I WILL keep you posted. I promise. I haven't forgotten about you!

Triathalon

Well, it is over!! What a great day! I beat my time from last summer, finishing in 1 hour, 33 minutes, and some seconds. My run was much improved from last year! The swim was still difficult, but it was improved as well, and so was the bike. My support staff (Chris, Hannah, and Madelyn) were awesome, cheering me on, taking pictures, and most of all, being good girls for Dad. I have an awesome family to come out and support me in this way. What a fun and rewarding day!!
My big finish!! (These pictures always upload in the wrong order that I want them to!

Transition from swim to bike.
Exiting after the swim (I look better than I felt!)
Me and my girls, just before the start. (They decided they would swim, too!)

Nervous Wreck

Tomorrow is the Pirate Tri, I am a nervous wreck. I don't know why, I am competing against no one but myself. Luckily, the weather is going to be nice enough so Chris and the girls will be there. That makes a huge difference having a little cheering squad of my very own. So, wish me luck, and I'll post back tomorrow hopefully with some nice pics and an earth-shattering record time!!

No Madelyns Allowed

Here is a scrapbook page I made with some pictures I took of signs Hannah has posted at various places around the house. "No Madlin", "No Madelyns Allowed", and "No Madelyns Ulaod." So, the general gist of it is, I presume, no Madelyns are allowed. The top one was posted on the refrigerator door. I asked Hannah why she put it there, and she replied, "So Madelyn doesn't clean out the fridge!" Very funny.
So, the cutest part was one day when Madelyn pointed to the second sign which was on Hannah's bedroom door and said sadly, "That say no Madelyns. I can't go in Hannah room, Momma." I felt so sad as parents do when one of their children is left out. SHE didn't seem to care, though, because immediately she went in anyways. Luckily, the person who posted these ominous signs was not at home to witness the trespass.

First Pedicure

Rose, Dena, Dottie and I took the girls to get pedicures yesterday. It was a new experience for Hannah, and she was so cute when they were scrubbing her
feet, she was giggling and giggling away! She picked this beautiful blue you see above, and had some red flowers added to it, and yes, that is mine below, that wonderful green with the pink flowers. I wanted something different, and in a flash of inspiration, picked the green. Not sure if I would do so again, but...it's kind of growing on me!

A Beautiful Lady

This is my favorite picture of the last week...taken Memorial Day weekend at one of our ice cream stops. Hannah picked a dandelion and put it behind Chris's ear, saying, "Now you are a BEAUTIFUL lady!" Yes, he definately is a beautiful lady. The funniest part of this was she then took the dandelion out, and replaced it with some gross looking weed, and was giggling away, because Chris still thought it was the dandelion.

Memorial Day weekend

I haven't posted for a few days, and I tried to find a few pics
that summed up the weekend...
a lot of fun going to the
beach, visiting Grandma,
going out for ice cream (two many times!) and, as always, a little bit of napping which always happens with too much fun! And, Aunty Aimee, if you are reading this, then again, Happy Birthday!! (Just checking to see if you are reading or not!)

That's funny, Dad...

Chris was putting Hannah to bed the other night, and he was wearing one of the strange T-shirts my mom tends to buy for him. Since Hannah is an EXCELLENT reader, she read the front of his shirt, which said, "I went camping, and burnt my wiener." Hannah says after reading it, "That's funny, Dad." Chris, thinking how to explain the shirt, replied to Hannah, "How is it funny?" And to that Hannah replied, "He must have had it too close to the fire!!"
I love the innocence!

T-minus three weeks...

The Pirate Tri is less than 3 weeks away now, and I am on the last two weeks of the big push to train. On Monday, I went to yoga and then swam for a half hour, Sunday I had gone on a long, 35-mile bike ride (further than I had ever gone!), and today, I met Cathy and we swam the course for the tri and then biked the bike course. Tomorrow, I have to do a bike/run brick. I am tired!! Today when I was biking, I kept thinking, "Why do I do this? Why do I do this to myself?" But then, when I am done, I KNOW why I do it...I feel so great after a workout, that keeps me going to the next. I am a little nervous now about the tri, the bike course was TOUGH, way more hills than the Tri for a Cure course, but to make up for it, the swim is going to be beautiful! Clear and calm, fresh water, that felt great today. Then, to top it off, I got home and the wetsuit I ordered was here. I tried it on and went into the pool, it fit well. Yay!
I do feel a little guilty at times, dropping Madelyn off at daycare so I can go work out, but when this is over, we will have many days to hang out together. I am doing this for myself, my well-being, which only benefits the girls.

Fun in the Sun

Well, it sure feels like summer is here! This was

a gorgeous weekend and the outlook for most of the week is sunny and in the 80's. Chris got to spraying the girls with the hose a little today as he was watering the flowers, and a little spray turned into a LOT of spray. They got completely soaked, but absolutely loved it! They ended up trying to hide up in the playhouse, but as you can see, it did not work out very well for them, as the hose found them!! I love it that the fun, carefree, WARM days of summer are almost upon us!

New Quilt

This is my newest quilt creation, made for and modeled by Madelyn.
I usually make about one quilt a year, and this one I think has been about two years in the making. I know I picked out the fabric for this over two years ago!
Although some parts of making a quilt are very tedious (sewing on the binding!!) I had alot of fun making this one, and I did something new, which was the applique! The girls really seem to like them alot.
I have made 3 for Hannah, and she is already asking me for another one! The other night while putting her to bed, Milo came in and started scratching on her quilt, and she yelled at him to stop, saying, "I don't want him to scratch up my quilt!" I was so happy that she understood how much work went into it, and to take care of it.

Hannah's new games

Tonight, Hannah came up with two new games for us to play. In the first one, she wrote out a bunch of numbers and we had to guess which one she was thinking of. In the second game, she spelled out a word with blanks like hangman, and we had to guess the letters that went in the blanks and then guess the words. I just thought she was so clever, coming up with these games. I can't believe sometimes how much she has matured over the kindergarten year, and also how well she can read! It blows me away when she reads a story to me and the amount of words that she knows. I really think she is above the average kindergartener with reading. I am so proud of her, and am enjoying her new maturity and knowledge all the time!

The Girl Scout Leader

Yes, it is official...I am a Girl Scout Leader! Why, you may ask? I am asking myself this exact question, yet we had our first official meeting tonight. I tried to sign Hannah up this past fall, but she was put on a waiting list since there were not enough troops. So, then I received a call this spring, would I like to be a leader? I have to admit, the idea did appeal to me somewhat, but I did not want to do it alone. Somehow, I managed to talk Rose into it, which is perfect, since Julianna can be in the troop next year. So, with her organization and teaching skills and my superb ideas, we are going to rock the Girl Scouts Lake Neighborhood! We are officially Troop 1709! I have to say, I am thinking it is going to be kind of fun, I like to do all the stuff that Girl Scouts do, crafts, outdoors stuff, field trips, etc. We did have fun tonight, but it is busy trying to corral six 5 and 6 year olds! The crazy thing is, that number could double this fall!

An Unusual Sight

This is what happens to little girls that stay up late (9:00) on Friday night to watch Avatar, then on Saturday go hiking, out for lunch, and then to a playdate for the afternoon. Oh, then come home at about 4:00 and run around and play outside for another hour. This is what I discovered in the big room at about 5:30 on Saturday afternoon...

Hike around Mackworth Island

Today the girls and I met up with Hannah's friend Katey and her mom and went for a hike around Mackworth Island, a little island off the coast in Falmouth. I have to admit that when I woke up this morning I really did not want to go.I am so glad I did! It was a beautiful mile and a quarter walk, and the girls had a great time. Hannah and Katey were especially excited, you would have thought we took them to Disneyland!
What a great way to spend a Saturday morning. It is a wonderful thing when your kids are young enough to appreciate a simple, free, adventure!
