That's funny, Dad...

Chris was putting Hannah to bed the other night, and he was wearing one of the strange T-shirts my mom tends to buy for him. Since Hannah is an EXCELLENT reader, she read the front of his shirt, which said, "I went camping, and burnt my wiener." Hannah says after reading it, "That's funny, Dad." Chris, thinking how to explain the shirt, replied to Hannah, "How is it funny?" And to that Hannah replied, "He must have had it too close to the fire!!"
I love the innocence!

T-minus three weeks...

The Pirate Tri is less than 3 weeks away now, and I am on the last two weeks of the big push to train. On Monday, I went to yoga and then swam for a half hour, Sunday I had gone on a long, 35-mile bike ride (further than I had ever gone!), and today, I met Cathy and we swam the course for the tri and then biked the bike course. Tomorrow, I have to do a bike/run brick. I am tired!! Today when I was biking, I kept thinking, "Why do I do this? Why do I do this to myself?" But then, when I am done, I KNOW why I do it...I feel so great after a workout, that keeps me going to the next. I am a little nervous now about the tri, the bike course was TOUGH, way more hills than the Tri for a Cure course, but to make up for it, the swim is going to be beautiful! Clear and calm, fresh water, that felt great today. Then, to top it off, I got home and the wetsuit I ordered was here. I tried it on and went into the pool, it fit well. Yay!
I do feel a little guilty at times, dropping Madelyn off at daycare so I can go work out, but when this is over, we will have many days to hang out together. I am doing this for myself, my well-being, which only benefits the girls.

Fun in the Sun

Well, it sure feels like summer is here! This was

a gorgeous weekend and the outlook for most of the week is sunny and in the 80's. Chris got to spraying the girls with the hose a little today as he was watering the flowers, and a little spray turned into a LOT of spray. They got completely soaked, but absolutely loved it! They ended up trying to hide up in the playhouse, but as you can see, it did not work out very well for them, as the hose found them!! I love it that the fun, carefree, WARM days of summer are almost upon us!

New Quilt

This is my newest quilt creation, made for and modeled by Madelyn.
I usually make about one quilt a year, and this one I think has been about two years in the making. I know I picked out the fabric for this over two years ago!
Although some parts of making a quilt are very tedious (sewing on the binding!!) I had alot of fun making this one, and I did something new, which was the applique! The girls really seem to like them alot.
I have made 3 for Hannah, and she is already asking me for another one! The other night while putting her to bed, Milo came in and started scratching on her quilt, and she yelled at him to stop, saying, "I don't want him to scratch up my quilt!" I was so happy that she understood how much work went into it, and to take care of it.

Hannah's new games

Tonight, Hannah came up with two new games for us to play. In the first one, she wrote out a bunch of numbers and we had to guess which one she was thinking of. In the second game, she spelled out a word with blanks like hangman, and we had to guess the letters that went in the blanks and then guess the words. I just thought she was so clever, coming up with these games. I can't believe sometimes how much she has matured over the kindergarten year, and also how well she can read! It blows me away when she reads a story to me and the amount of words that she knows. I really think she is above the average kindergartener with reading. I am so proud of her, and am enjoying her new maturity and knowledge all the time!

The Girl Scout Leader

Yes, it is official...I am a Girl Scout Leader! Why, you may ask? I am asking myself this exact question, yet we had our first official meeting tonight. I tried to sign Hannah up this past fall, but she was put on a waiting list since there were not enough troops. So, then I received a call this spring, would I like to be a leader? I have to admit, the idea did appeal to me somewhat, but I did not want to do it alone. Somehow, I managed to talk Rose into it, which is perfect, since Julianna can be in the troop next year. So, with her organization and teaching skills and my superb ideas, we are going to rock the Girl Scouts Lake Neighborhood! We are officially Troop 1709! I have to say, I am thinking it is going to be kind of fun, I like to do all the stuff that Girl Scouts do, crafts, outdoors stuff, field trips, etc. We did have fun tonight, but it is busy trying to corral six 5 and 6 year olds! The crazy thing is, that number could double this fall!

An Unusual Sight

This is what happens to little girls that stay up late (9:00) on Friday night to watch Avatar, then on Saturday go hiking, out for lunch, and then to a playdate for the afternoon. Oh, then come home at about 4:00 and run around and play outside for another hour. This is what I discovered in the big room at about 5:30 on Saturday afternoon...

Hike around Mackworth Island

Today the girls and I met up with Hannah's friend Katey and her mom and went for a hike around Mackworth Island, a little island off the coast in Falmouth. I have to admit that when I woke up this morning I really did not want to go.I am so glad I did! It was a beautiful mile and a quarter walk, and the girls had a great time. Hannah and Katey were especially excited, you would have thought we took them to Disneyland!
What a great way to spend a Saturday morning. It is a wonderful thing when your kids are young enough to appreciate a simple, free, adventure!

Worst Mommy ever

So, when I wrote that little blurb the other night about 3-year olds, I guess it was a premonition of things to come. The next day, was a knock-down, drag-out fight to get that kid to Barday house. She cried from the time I woke her up until...who knows when? When I left her at daycare, she was lying on the floor in a heap on top of binka, crying, with snot streaming down her nose. She did not want to do anything to get ready, and cried and fought me every step of the way. When I got into the car to leave daycare, I broke down in tears, because I was so frustrated and felt like such a terrible mother to leave her that way. Then, to top it off, I called Chris to vent my frustrations, and he said, "Do you want to get rid of her the same way you want to get rid of the dog?" (Another story for another time). The worst part about it, is that during that whole terrible tirade of hers, I did suggest that I may look for another mother for her...or donate her to charity. So the thought actually DID cross my mind...

Three-year olds...

Did I really forget what 3-year olds are like? I think I did, or I blocked it out of my memory. Madelyn, you are really a pain in the you-know-what lately...your response to just about anything we are going to do, be it getting dressed, brushing teeth, eating lunch, any change of venue at all...is "I DON'T WANT TO...(fill in the blank here). It is really, really tiring to go through this twice, three, four, five, times daily, and I really don't LIKE you some days...Must remember, this is what 3-year olds do, must remember, this is what 3-year olds do...this too, will pass.

BEST TIME EVER!!

Happy Mother's Day! I received a beautiful jewelry holder hand-made from Hannah today. She was SO excited for me to open it, I awoke this morning to a 5 year old about 2 inches from my face, saying "Do you want to open your present now??"
Hannah and I went to the Seadogs Mothers Day 5K this morning as well, Hannah ran the kids race, and I was very impressed...no tears, no frustration, she ran very hard and did her best. Made Mom proud! Then I ran the 5K with Rose and Dena, and I have to say, I had my BEST TIME EVER! Twenty-eight minutes even! I made myself proud!

It just freaks me out.

Today I took Hannah to a birthday party for her friend Will at a bowling alley. While we were there, we saw one of the kindergarten teachers from Hannah's school. She said hi to Hannah, and Hannah replied, "Hey, I know you!" Later, on the way home from the party, Hannah says to me, "I didn't think kindergarten teachers were allowed to go to bowling alleys." I replied that yes, of course, kindergarten teachers could go wherever other people went. She replied to me, "Well, I guess so, but it just freaks me out. It REALLY freaks me out."
What freaks ME out is the things she says sometimes.

Did I tell you that I love you?

I just went in Hannah's room to tell her goodnight, she was already pretty sleepy. I gave her a kiss and said, i love you. She gave me a kiss and said to me, i love you. I kissed her again and said, did i tell you i love you? She kissed me again, untucked one skinny arm from under her pile of covers, wrapped it around my neck and said, did i tell you i love YOU?? I got up to leave the room and she said, oh, one more thing, and blew me a kiss. I flew a kiss at you, mom.

Sick Day?

So when I was at work last night, Chris called and said Madelyn put herself to bed at 5:40. Very unusual for her, but she also felt very hot, so she was not feeling well. She had a restless night per report, so I get home from work this morning at 7:20, she is laying on the chair, feeling very hot, and does look like she is not feeling well. So I start worrying about her not feeling well tonight, which is Hannah's first school program that we are supposed to attend, and that one of us will miss the program to stay home with Madelyn, when all of a sudden!..."Mom, I want to go outside, Mom! Let's build a puzzle! Mom! I want some cereal!" The sickness seems to have disappeared...
This leads me to another one of my rules of children that I have learned...whenever they appear sick and you actually keep them home, the sickness lasts for approximately 2 hours, and then seems to disappear and they have more energy than a normal day!
Here she is, picking the marshmallows out of the Lucky Charms cereal...

What a gorgeous day! It has been so beautiful, with the weather sunny and in the 70's. Our yard is starting to look great, Chris did a bunch of planting over the weekend and it is fabulous! Today is a great day so far! Getting up at 4:30 to run with Rose, (I have to say I look forward to it, crazy, I know!), hang out with the girls, bring Hannah to school and Maddie to Barday house, then I went swimming, came home, took a nap, now going to work. After I go vote on the school board budget and maybe stop at the craft store. I have to go vote, I have been feeling a little guilt at not being more involved in Hannah's school. I really thought I would be volunteering at the school and really attentive to what is going on, and I have not been, and now the school year is almost over. I know she is doing great in school, her reading is amazing! I can't believe the books she just picks up and can almost read them all, she knows so many words, and what she doesn't know, she can sound out pretty well. So I know she is doing well, I just think I have a case of the guilts because I know my friends all volunteer more at the school than I do. I haven't been paying atteniton to this budget stuff, and I really should be. I also thought I would be going to PTO meetins, and haven't done that yet, either! I have to stop being so selfish, and try to get a little more involved.

New name, new look

Hi! Just testing, changed the name and address, seeing if it worked!
